Blair supports British online watchdog
LONDON, June 12 (UPI) -- Bloggers and online journalists would face scrutiny from a government regulator if British Prime Minister Tony Blair had his way.
Blair, who leaves office June 27 after a decade at No. 10 Downing Street Sac Burberry, says online news coverage has become "more pernicious and less balanced" than traditional print journalism, The Telegraph reported.
Blair likens instant 24/7 Internet media to "a feral beast sac MIU MIU, just tearing people and reputations to bits," saying online reporting was "more intent on the latest conspiracy theory multiplied by five."
Blair said the separate government regulatory systems for newspapers and television need to be revised.
"As the technology blurs the distinction between papers and television Hermes pas chère, it becomes increasingly irrational to have different systems of accountability based on technology that no longer can be differentiated in the old way," Blair said.
