Leury Garcia made two nice plays in the infield, took a walk, started the Rangers'first rally and scored the first run and executed a hit-and-run in the decisive eighth inning. Rangers Rangers Shop manager Ron Washington rarely acknowledges surprise over anything in baseball, but even he admitted to being pleasantly surprised by the performance of Garcia in his first major league start Saturday.
Perhaps the most impressive part of Garcia's debut was the hit-and-run he executed in the eighth inning that moved Craig Gentry to second base ahead of Elvis Andrus' go-ahead single. The Rangers had put the sacrifice bunt play on to start that at-bat, but Washington removed it. Mike Napoli Jersey
Washington actually wanted to put on a steal, but mistakenly gave the hit-and-run sign and Garcia followed along with the instructions. In addition, Garcia made the best defensive play of the game, rushing from shortstop to the first base side of second baseman Ian Kinsler to field a Kendrys Morales grounder and flip the ball with his glove for the final out of the inning.
