India moving toward nuclear energy
MUMBAI , Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Officials in India said they have an export deal and a nuclear deal passed in Parliament.
The U.S.-Indian agreement on civilian nuclear cooperation passed last week , and Tuesday an agreement was reached on export control requirements with the Nuclear Suppliers Group , Indian news agency PTI reported.
The Nuclear Suppliers Group still must reach an agreement with the United States on changes in the non-proliferation code and safeguard requirements.
A special meeting of the NSG is scheduled for Aug. 21 , and Indian officials have said they think the safeguard requirement should be removed.
At a previous meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency , specific safeguards for India were agreed upon.
