Grammys honor 20 artists, tunes
NEW YORK, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Twenty songs ranging from Ray Charles' "America the Beautiful" to the Rolling Stones' "Let it Bleed" are being added to the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Other artists named Wednesday by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Science included Louis Armstrong , Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Bob Hope, Henry Mancini, Bob Marley and Frank Sinatra.
"This year's inductees represent an array of genres including traditional pop , rock, reggae and jazz ," Neil Portnow, Recording Academy president, said in a news release. "They exemplify some of the best qualities that make the recording arts such a vital part of our culture: the ability to transcend time, and the power to inspire emotion, whether it be joyous, patriotic or simply romantic."
The 20 additions will be honored in the Grammy's Feb. 13 broadcast on CBS. They bring to 659 the number of recordings at least 25 years old that the academy determined have lasting or historical significance.Related Topics Articles:
