CAIRO Timberland uomo, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Egypt will continue its efforts to bring about a comprehensive and just Arab-Israeli peace and continue to help build Palestinian-Israeli confidence to resume the peace process, Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said Saturday. In his address to the opening session of the 56th Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs, Abul Gheit urged all influential international powers, the United Nations and the International Quartet, to shoulder their responsibilities in this respect, the official MENA news agency reported. The Quartet, which groups the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations Scarpe timberland, has been a major mediator in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. In 2003, the Quartet initiated the roadmap peace plan for the decades-old conflict in an effort to establish a viable Palestinian state living alongside Israel in peace by 2005. Egypt, as a regional power, has long played a mediating role between Israel and the Palestinians. Abul Gheit said the Middle East has been witnessing several reform initiatives from international mediators Outlet timberland, but views of the region's nations must be given due consideration. He cited the Palestinian problem as the region's top priority, saying continued Israeli occupation and non-establishment of a Palestinian state only fueled sense of despair and indignation at injustice which is rooted in "international double standards" and thus helps form fertile ground for extremist ideas and terror. Egypt is the first country in the Middle East to host the conference.
