WASHINGTON
, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush Wednesday said he doesn't think North Korea appreciates the consequences of its actions.
At a White House news conference
, Bush said the United States will increase cooperation with allies in the region in the wake of North Korean claims of a successful nuclear test this week. Bush said experts are still trying to determine the validity of the claim.
Nevertheless
, whether the claim is valid
, Bush said the U.N. Security Council must send North Korea a stern message
, requiring Pyongyang to abide by international agreements and dismantle its nuclear program. He said it is also imperative that North Korea be prevented from exporting any nuclear technology.
Bush said North Korea's latest actions amount to a rejection of an agreement reached last September at talks that included not only the United States and North Korea
, but South Korea
, China
, Japan and Russia as well.
"North Korea has chosen to reject prospects of a better future offered by the six-party statement
