'everybody Wins' Policy Does Not Prepare Students For The Real World

It feels good to win. When your team wins, it improves the team's standing among other teams. When you win money in the lottery, it is exciting. You have money to put toward living expenses or to save for a dream. What about the "everybody wins" policy in elementary schools, though?
This policy says that there are no winners or losers, and when the class plays a game, every student gets a prize. Each student has something to take home with him, such as a pencil or a sticker. Is it right, though? What is this policy teaching children? It is teaching them that they will always win. They will always get their way. Later in life, they will learn the harsh reality: everybody does not win.
In high school, for example, students must work very hard to get good grades. The grades are not simply handed out,mac studio fix. Those who work very hard get good grades, make the honor roll, and may become eligible for awards designated only for those students who earn very high grades. Those who do not do so well may need tutors and feel very happy and relieved when they they finally graduate.
Students go on to college and learn that they must continue to work very hard to stay in school. Those who do work hard do very well and perhaps appear on the Dean's List. Those who struggle in their classes may need help in order to avoid being place on academic suspension.
Later, after graduating from college, students learn that everybody does not get his dream job. The job market is highly competitive, and only those who are most qualified for a position will get an interview and be offered a job. Then, after being hired, a person must work very hard to remain with the company. Otherwise, someone who is better qualified for the job may replace him.
This is not to say that people cannot succeed, however. People can succeed, and they do--every day. Students earn prestigious awards. Employers honor employees after the employees have been with the company for many years. After many years of cooperative activities with coworkers, assembly line work, or working frantically to meet deadlines, employees can win.
When an employee is a winner at work, he fits in well with his coworkers. He is a good worker who stays on task and does quality work. His supervisor is eager to write him a letter of recommendation for a scholarship or job, because he can attest to the employee's character. Related articles:
