Chavez appears on TV hosting meeting

CARACAS, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez appeared Tuesday on TV for the first time since May 11, when he finished his last round of cancer treatment in Cuba.

Chavez spoke with a strong voice and showed no sign of fatigue as he hosted a two-hour-plus ministerial meeting, Local TV channels showed.

Chavez, 57, expressed confidence to win the presidential election scheduled on Oct. 7, saying he would give his rival, the opposition candidate Henrique Capriles, a defeat with "no precedent in the political history of this country."

Chavez only had phone conversations that aired on state-run VTV television since returning home from Cuba for his fifth round of radiation treatment, but this was the first time he appeared on camera since the trip.

The Venezuelan government said Chavez wholesale ray bans, who used to be keen on making public appearances, had been caring about state affairs and the reason for his recent low profile was that he was still in a process of follow-up treatments and recuperation.

Chavez had a cancerous tumor removed from his pelvic area in June 2011. He underwent additional surgery in February after the cancer returned and has since made several more trips to Cuba for treatment.
